Information for Hunting/Working dog owners
* At the Ordinary Council meeting on 23 April 2019, Council resolved that hunting dogs that are kept solely or principally for the purposes of hunting game by a person undertaking legal hunting activities, and that have completed avian awareness and aversion training, be declared to be working dogs for the purposes of the Dog Control Act 1996. Owners must complete a ‘declaration of hunting dog’ or ‘declaration of working dog’ form. Contact Council if you require either of these forms.
Information for owners of multiple dogs
Note: clause 11 of the Ōpōtiki District Council Dog Control Bylaw 2008 places a limit on the number of dogs on a premises. If you live in a Residential Zone, Mixed Activity Zone, Ōhiwa Harbour Zone, or Coastal Settlement Zone and want to keep more than two dogs older than three months, complete an ‘application for licence to keep more than two dogs’ form. There are no limits in the Rural Zone or Coastal Zone. Contact Council to request this form if required.
